Winter Skincare Regimen for Dry & Sensitive Skin Types

Winter in Pakistan — whether in Islamabad’s chilly mornings, Lahore’s dry smoggy afternoons, or Karachi’s cooler breezy nights — is as challenging for our skin as it is for our wardrobe and reinvigorated pigeons. Left-brain cold weather, harsh winds, indoor heaters, and wet city smog can collectively rob moisture and create sensitivity. Such sensitive/dry skin as mine is in need of a very gentle yet effective skin care regimen this season. Follow the easy steps listed below, and you can help your skin stay healthy, glowing, and comfortable from December to February — and beyond.

Why Winter Is Hard On Dry & Sensitive Skin

In winter, when humidity drops, and the air outside is cold, your skin loses moisture quickly than it can replace it. Artificial indoor heating (especially during cool Islamabad, Lahore winter nights or your city) further zaps the air around you of moisture, leading to increased water loss from skin. In addition, the winter smog and pollution — common especially in city environments — can aggravate sensitive skin, causing redness, flakiness, or tightness, and in some cases even breakouts. And for those already dealing with dryness or sensitivity? Skipping a regimen might result in raw dryness, cracking — even accelerated aging.

Which is why a winter skincare routine isn’t a luxury — it’s the equivalent of wrapping yourself in a protective covering. Gentle Cleansing Neutralizing your skin’s pH and softening it after cleansing, the Aloe Vera ingredients gently remove impurities without stripping away your face’s natural, protective oils. Deep Rehydration. This formula is infused with Polynesian Lagoon Water to replenish all of that lost moisture from daily activities. Environmental Protection. Not only do we care about what goes into our products, but also what we have left.

Step-by-Step Winter Skincare Routine

Gentle Cleansing (Morning & Night)

Skip harsh foaming cleansers. Instead, opt for a gentle fragrance-free or soap cleanser – ideally something marketed as “dry/sensitive skin”. Use lukewarm water (never hot!) to wash your face; hot water breaks down the skin barrier and depletes moisture.” When you cleanse, it removes dust, pollution, and your sweat without drying out your own oils.

Hydrating Toner or Essence (Optional)

If your skin can handle it, apply a moisturizing toner or essence right after cleansing — something alcohol-free and ideally soothing, like one with glycerin or rose-water. This helps draw water into the skin, especially when the air is dry.

Moisturizer, Moisturizer, Moisturizer

This is the big step. Choose a thick, barrier-repairing cream with ingredients like ceramides, glycerin,  hyaluronic acid, and natural oils. For the day, a lightweight yet deeply hydrating cream is good. For a night, choose a richer formula — creams with shea butter, almond oil, or squalane offer deep hydrating power while you sleep. Search for labels like “for dry skin”  or “dermatologist-tested.”

Extra tip for Pakistani winters: if your home is centrally heated, or you spend a lot of time outside in the cold, layer it over — an emollient first, then a slightly thicker cream — to seal in moisture through the day.

Gentle Sunscreen (Even in Winter!)

Yes — that includes winter, when UV rays can damage your skin, since the sun reflects off concrete or glass more often in urban landscapes. Use a Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen – a minimum SPF 30 cream with UV protection should be used every day in the morning. Option for a formula that’s lightweight and free of fragrance — great for sensitive skin.

Lips & Hands Round the Clock Care

Cold wind and dry indoor air can make lips and hands feel rough. Slip a moisturizing lip balm (one with shea butter or beeswax) into your pocket and keep a thick hand cream by your side — it will be particularly useful if you’re washing hands often.

Weekly Treatments & Extra Care

Gentle exfoliation 1x per week: You can do this using a gentle product (like a mild AHA/BHA or a soft scrub), but make sure to remove the flaky and dead skin. Just don’t go nuts — no more than once a week! If your hand looks dry and miserable, that’s already a harbinger of over-exfoliation.” Create Command Text”:” Over-exfoliation can damage the skin barrier, causing more dryness and sensitivity.

hydration Masks: Apply a cream or sheet mask one to two times a week. Ingredients like honey, oatmeal, or hyaluronic-acid serums aid in deeply rehydrating and calming skin worked over by cold air and pollution.

Facial oil (optional): For particularly dry skin, consider adding a few drops of an airy oil (like almond or jojoba, even rose) at night — either directly into your moisturizer or atop in its own right — to lock in additional moisture.

Lifestyle & Home Habits (Do NOT Overlook These!)

Run a humidifier at home — this prevents the air inside from getting too dry, and helps your skin hold on to moisture.

Drink a lot of water — it’s all about being hydrated from the inside. Hot water with lemon or herbal teas is also good for the skin.

Skip the long hot showers — they’re cozy in winter, but hot water is drying. Pat skin dry and immediately moisturize with lukewarm water, instead.

Bundle up outside — don a scarf so that your face is shielded from cold wind and pollution. Windburn and dust sifting into your eyes is less of a problem with sunglasses and a hat.
